Windows 7 May Get Family Pack Discount (PC World)

PC World - Microsoft may be introducing a Family Pack for Windows 7 Home Premium, with a shared license for three computers in the same household. The license details in the latest build of Windows 7 have the following clause under ‘Installation and Use Rights': "If you are a ‘Qualified Family Pack User,' you may install one copy of the software marked as ‘Family Pack' on three computers in your household for use by people who reside there," according to ZDNet's Ed Bott.

Selected testers are reporting that they've received invitations for the Service Pack (SP) 2 betas for Vista and Windows Server 2008. Neowin was first to acknowledge the delivery of the SP2 invitations. Other testers are now confirming that report. The broader-scale SP2 betas are exptected to begin within the next four weeks for the new service packs, Neowin says. Some testers -- a very select few -- already have a test build of SP2 for Vista (not sure if also for Windows Server 2008) in hand, as I noted recently. I'm hearing Microsoft's goal is to deliver the final version of both SP2s before the company releases Windows 7, which is expected to be released to manufacturing in the latter half of 2009. ...

Windows 7 pricing thoughts - Is Windows too expensive?

I'm really hoping that Steven Sinofsky will kick off a discussion about Windows 7 pricing over on the Engineering Windows 7 blog sometime soon. I'm not holding my breath because the chances of seeing an open debate on pricing is highly unlikely, but I can dream, can't I? My take on the issue of Windows pricing is that as things stand, Vista (OEM, upgrade and new license) is too expensive compared to the price of hardware. When a decent PC cost $1,000+ it wasn't unreasonable that an OEM copy of the OS system builder would set you back some $100+, but now that you can put together a good quality PC for $260, it really doesn't make sense that buying Windows Vista ...
