Reviews of the tablet version of Lenovo’s X200 ultraportable are in. The big change in this version, which replaces the longstanding ThinkPad X61t, is the switch to a widescreen display. The X200 Tablet is also thinner and lighter, weighing about 3.5 pounds with the standard four-cell battery and a little more than 4 pounds with the eight-cell version. Both Laptop Magazine and PC Magazine tested a $2,323 configuration that includes a low-voltage 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo L9400 (the regular ThinkPad X200 uses a standard-voltage Core 2 Duo chip); 2GB of DDR3 memory, which also operates at a lower voltage; the latest Intel integrated graphics; and a 7,200rpm 160GB hard drive. Judges look at four key areas across all award categories: innovation in methodology and execution, achieving measurable success goals, excellence in tactical execution, and overall approach and category relevance. Asus kicked off the netbook craze about 18 months ago with its original Eee PC, and now the line has graduated to Windows 7 and a multi-touch, swiveling screen that turns the T101MT into a tablet PC. The T91 was the first Eee PC that worked as a convertible tablet, but it had a smaller 8.9-inch screen and ran Windows XP, which of course lacks multi-touch capabilities. The T101MT comes with a 10.1-inch LED-backlit screen that works with the bundled touch-based software as well as PenWrite technology for stylus-based interaction. Cambridge develops super thin e-paper

This is something for sore eyes; it certainly got my lower jaw dropped to the desk. The University of Cambridge, besides being loathed by almost everybody at my university (long story, another day) have once again excelled themselves in the technological field by developing this idea, whereas Plastic Logic, are manufacturing the device. It has the capacity to hold hundreds of separate newspapers, and uses plastic microchips as opposed to silicon ones - so although it feels like a very thin tablet of plastic, it's about the same weight as a magazine. I admit to being a fan of Nokia devices, but think there are several areas of the S60 Symbian-based operating system that need improvement. I am also quite a fan of Google Android, especially running on my T-Mobile G1. The Guardian is reporting the Nokia will be announcing an Android smartphone at Nokia World in September. The Guardian does not list any source for this rumor, other than industry insiders, so I am not taking this possibility as fact yet. However, I do think it would be interesting to see a Nokia ASeries (Android series) or Nokia Android Tablet class of devices with Nokia's outstanding hardware and Android's powerful and user friendly operating system.
